After my little detour to Chicago I got here in Iowa City at nighttime. This gave me time to do some research on the places I want to visit and get some good shuteye.
I found out that they have a Fossil gorge called the Devonian Fossil Gorge. Even though floods have ruined some of the landscape, there are tons of different fossils and fossil maps to be located. Even though there aren’t any dinosaur fossils here it’s a great place to see the geological fossils it has produced. I didn’t spend too much time here but I did find it interesting to just be near fossils. It makes Sean Zarinegar feel young when he stands next to very old things.
I also went over to the Museum of Natural History and spend a bit of time there. It was wonderful to experience all the history after walking around a fossil gorge for a couple of hours. It really puts things into perspective, as we only live our 60-80 years on this earth to see what was before us so many years ago. I wonder how the Museums of the future will view us, would be very interesting to be able to time travel wouldn’t it?
I also swung by the Iowa Avenue Literary Walk, which turned out to be a very lovely stroll. There are tons of historic buildings and you can get lost in all of the stories these buildings have to tell.
Right now I am on the verge of making it back home, with only one more stop on the way and then I will finally be able to sleep on my own bed. Sean Zarinegar loves to travel but he also loves his own bed, and this has been a long and interesting journey, and it’s almost over. Next stop will be De Moines and then home. This has been some adventure guys. See you in Des Moines.
