Wasn’t there a Sherlock Holmes story about Canterbury, I’m not sure maybe you guys can tell me by shooting me a mail. Finally Sean Zarinegar came back to Canterbury to see what it all is about. One person on the Isle of Scilly told me that if I’m heading out to Canterbury I should get a passport. I had no idea what he was talking about until he explained that they have a passport for many of the attractions in Canterbury. I thought this to be a novel idea so when I came to Canterbury I asked where I could obtain one. I could order one online so I did just that and got my hands on an Attractions Passport of Canterbury.
Since Canterbury was on my list of Sean Zarinegar Euro Hotspots I decided to take an audio tour. These guys are professional; I mean they translate into seven languages. Kent tours truly showed me Canterbury in a couple of hours and the tour guides are incredibly knowledgable about the surroundings. I think it is a good idea to take a guided tour before heading off into the city myself, so I can get a general idea on where to go back to.
I went to visit the Cathedral since everybody was raving about it, now Sean Zarinegar has seen many Cathedrals in his day, but this one was impressive. The Cathedral dates back all the way to 597 AD when St. Augustine arrived in Canterbury and became the first Archbishop of the area. The Cathedral still is very much apart of the local community and is still being used every single day. This was a very unique sight to see and to think that these buildings have survived for over a thousand years will make any man bit his tongue.
One thing that I am realizing is that the sheer history in Europe is something to admire, and the fact that even though there were wars and conquests many of their ancient buildings are very well preserved.
Due to the ancient nature of this city I decided to go on a Ghost Tour at night. I have been on a couple in the US but I think it would be a unique experience to walk the city of Canterbury at night and go on some ghost hunts. For now I think I’ll need to rest a bit before I go on the Ghost Tour because I have been walking a lot already. Either way in the next blog I’ll tell you about the tour. For now this is Sean Zarinegar getting some R and R.
