Well folks it is no secret that Ireland had a lot of monks, in fact Irish monks christened most of Europe. This brought Sean Zarinegar to Glendalough, an ancient Irish monastery. This monastery was built in a very remote area of Ireland, but never the less the Vikings found it and destroyed it, so evidently I had to make it to an ancient battle field. Can you folks imagine just how it must have been like back in the Viking era, just standing here looking at the surroundings I can almost hear the clash of metal. Either way this place has a lot more than just the monastery.
Glendalough also has one of last remaining and best-preserved towers in all of Ireland. It is magnificent to see these heavy stones piled up together with the highest window faces all directions. The most peculiar thing of the round tower is that the door is elevated above the ground. I wonder if it was a defensive strategy that they implemented in building the door that high or if it was for some other unknown reason. Either way it still is a very impressive sight to see and it makes me feel like this Euro trip is going to be packed with these types of sights all over. I also saw a High cross that is supposed to be standing since 600 AD; I mean I could feel the history gleam from the cross.
I soon had to leave Glendalough because it was just starting to rain again and I didn’t want to be walking around in the mud. I made my way out just in the nick of time too, and decided to visit another antique shop…err cafĂ© where I was able to get online and write my findings. I got me a nicely brewed local beer while waiting for my food and took some time to write my dear readers. Anyway I think it is time for me to chow down, I’ll be updating you guys on the next findings. For now this is Sean Zarinegar, chowing down!
